Big change at Frankfurt Galaxy. Thomas Kösling will no longer act as head coach. Instead, he will take over as Sports Director of the team.

This is the result of an "intensive decision-making process" explains the franchise. In addition to his involvement with Galaxy, he has other career commitments. For this reason, full-time employment as Galaxy Head Coach is no longer possible. As Sports Director, he will continue to be involved in all roster plannings and coaching staff hirings.

"We have reached a point where we need to become more professional, and that is not possible with my current occupation. We have therefore decided together that we will hire a full-time Head Coach as well as a full-time Offensive and Defensive Coordinator. As Sports Director, I will continue to be involved in putting together the roster and making coaching decisions. In the medium and long term, this is exactly the right step to further expand the franchise from within and to create a roster and organizational structures that attract players and offer them the best conditions for success. I’m already looking forward to next season and continuing to be part of the Galaxy", explains Kösling.

Managing Director of Frankfurt Galaxy Eric Reutemann adds: "The entire Frankfurt Galaxy would like to thank Thomas for his many years of work and his tireless commitment as Head Coach and co-founder. His passion and dedication have built this organization and will continue to shape it for a long time to come. From the very beginning, Thomas has put his heart and soul into the Galaxy, leading us to our first title and many more achievements. For me personally, having worked closely with him since the beginning of the league and as a good friend, this step is also very emotional. We will miss him on the sideline, but I am glad that he will continue to play a central role in our organization as Sports Director. Together, we are already working intensively on a successor to bring the Galaxy back to the top of American Football in Europe."

Even before the new Frankfurt Galaxy was founded, Kösling was an established part of the franchise, which was known as the "Frankfurt Universe" at the time. He remained Head Coach when the team entered the ELF in 2021 and led the Galaxy to the first championship title in league history.
