Homegrowns of the Week: Wildcard Edition

The wildcard round European League of Football produced some great performances by homegrown players. Here are the best of them:

Even though the Wroclaw Panthers lost to the Stuttgart Surge, there were two homegrowns that played great games. The first one is Homegrown of the Year candidate Dawid Brzozowski. The 22-year-old was the focal point of the Panthers offense, amassing a total of 107 yards on 20 touches.

The second Panther to make the list is Daniel Piątkowski. The strong safety led all homegrowns with 13 tackles and also had 0.5 tackles for loss. The 24-year-old established himself as one of the best homegrown safeties in his third season in the European League of Football.

Louis Geyer has been a true difference maker for the Surge offense this season, so it was no surprise that he stepped up yet again when his number was called on Sunday. The Homegrown of the Year nominee caught four passes for 79 yards and a touchdown against the Wroclaw Panthers to secure a trip to the semi-final for his Surge.

The Surge front seven had a great day on Sunday, racking up three sacks and 11 tackles for loss. Defensive end Simon Butsch played a big part in that production, contributing two sacks and two tackles for loss along with two tackles in a 37-14 win over the Panthers.

Although the Berlin Thunder did not advance to the semi-final, they certainly gave it their all. Homegrown outside linebacker Paul Seifert, who has been a key-player for the team all season long, had another good performance against the Galaxy, recording seven tackles and two tackles for loss.
