Frankfurt Galaxy have placed their starting quarterback Matthew McKay and DB Channing Stribling on injured reserve. Halfway through the season, Galaxy suffers the loss of two key players on offense and defense.

American quarterback McKay, currently ranked sixth in passing stats with 1.332 passing yards and 10 touchdowns this season, is among them. McKay already played for Frankfurt last season, stepping in for QB Luke Zahradka, who was sidelined with a shoulder injury. Before that, he played college football for North Carolina State University in Division I and was also active in the XFL.

The injury to American cornerback Channing Stribling will also have a significant impact on Frankfurt’s defense. Stribling played Division I football for the University of Michigan, was part of several NFL teams' practice squads and also played in the USFL for the Philadelphia Stars. In the five games he played this season, he recorded three interceptions. With this background, he brought a wealth of experience to the team before his injury.

New signings to help Frankfurt bounce back

Frankfurt Galaxy reacted immediately to both injuries, signing QB Jameson Wang and DB Bijon Harris as direct replacements. Expected to replace McKay and Stribling, the two Americans are tasked with helping Frankfurt get back on track after three straight losses. Their first big test comes this Saturday, when Frankfurt Galaxy hosts Stuttgart Surge. Stuttgart currently holds a 5–2 record and remains in the fight for a spot in the 2025 Championship Game, which will take place in their home city. They currently hold a playoff spot and will fight hard to keep it.

What is known about the new signings?

Jameson Wang is a 23-year-old American from Los Angeles, California. He studied at Ivy League school Cornell University in New York State, where he played Division I football for the Cornell Big Red. Although he entered the 2025 NFL Draft, he wasn’t selected and didn’t sign with any team. He participated in the Los Angeles Chargers Rookie Mini Camp in May and now, nearly two months later, makes the move to the ELF.

Defensive back Bijon Harris is also from the greater Los Angeles area and played Division I football for the UNLV Rebels at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He already has ELF experience, having played cornerback for the Cologne Centurions last season. In his nine games for Cologne, he recorded 44 tackles, three forced fumbles, four interceptions and eleven pass deflections.

Due to their college backgrounds, the American players bring a high level of physical strength and discipline to the team. Now, it remains to be seen how much impact these young athletes can make as they step up to fill important roles on the team.
