Frankfurt Galaxy bring back star running back Gerald Ameln
The Frankfurt Galaxy have brought back a familiar face in running back Gerald Ameln. The talented running back will return to the Frankfurt Galaxy for the 2025 season after an impressive 2024 season with the Cologne Centurions. Ameln played for the Galaxy in the ELF's first season, back in 2021.
Ameln was named the "2021 Rooke of the Year" as part of the Frankfurt Galaxy's 2021 championship team. Ameln 366 yards and two touchdowns that season with the Galaxy earning All Star honors.
Since then, the German and Ghanian ball carrier has played for the Hamburg Sea Devils in 2022 and the Cologne Centurions the past two seasons, putting up 1,482 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns during his four seasons in the ELF. However, Ameln is looking for more than stats as he hopes to raise the ELF championship trophy once again with the Galaxy: "This is a full circle moment, let's get a second one!"
Last year, Ameln was on pace for his best season yet, averaging 84 rushing yards a game before suffering a seaosn ending injury. Through seven games, the 23-year-old back ran for 588 yards and five touchdowns, while adding another 90 yards and a touchdown as a receiver. Galaxy Sporting director and Ameln's former coach Thomas Kösling is thrilled to have the young talent back in purple:
“For me, Gerry Ameln is one of the best homegrown RBs in the league given his abilities. His vision, which is very difficult to learn, really defines him as a player. We are thrilled that he is coming back after 3 years, and hopefully we can celebrate such success together again.”
