Dylan Jacob becomes new quarterback of the Centurions – Daniel Smith retires from football
There is a new starting quarterback for the Cologne Centurions in the 2023 European League of Football season.
The Cologne Centurions announce Dylan Jacob as their new quarterback. The originally signed US-American Daniel Smith had changed his career at short notice to quit football and find a better option in the economy. The agile ball distributor Jacob comes from Denver to Cologne. He already gained European experience last year, debuting in the second French league for the Léopards de Rouen and being named the league's best player.
"I am extremly excited about Cologne and about the chance to play for the Centurions. The organization and coaching staff have already made me feel welcome. I'm looking forward to this new experience of getting to know the guys, the coaches and the fans already in the next few days. I think there is a lot to be excited about in the upcoming season. Now it's time to work hard for success!" said Dylan Jacob about the new challenge.
Previously, Jacob was part of the University of Colorado football team. Before joining their Buffaloes, Jacob played three years for the Mountaineers of Western Colorado University and became the focus of the higher-ranked university after performing well. Jacob was originally scheduled to suit up for the Cologne Crocodiles this summer, but due to the club's withdrawal from the German Football League, he was now available on short notice – as the club commented.
Centurions head coach Christos Lambropoulos is convinced of the 24-year-old US American's qualities: "We had to find a replacement for Daniel Smith. When we checked our board, it turned out that Dylan is the right choice both on and off the field. We look forward to Dylan's leadership and talent complementing our offensive backfield."
