Coach Gabriel Sánchez: "The franchise has decided to take a different direction"

The Barcelona Dragons have decided to part ways with their head coach Gabriel Sánchez, via his instagram channel. As Gabriel "Blacky" Sánchez announced on social media, “the franchise has a different vision and has decided to take a different direction,” he said.

In the last two years, Sánchez was part of the coaching staff, being the defensive coordinator under Andrew Weidinger before leading the team into the 2023 campaign as the head coach. While reaching the playoffs in 2022, the franchise ended the 2023 season in 5th place in the Central Conference, just ahead of the Milano Seamen.

New challenges for the Dragons

"I can only thank all the people who reached out to me […] I am leaving happy to have been a part of the ELF these two years," Sánchez commented.

With new ownership at the top of the franchise and general manager Bart Iaccarino not being re-signed, the franchise is off to new shores.
