BREAKING - Paris Musketeers sign reigning Defensive Player of the Year

The Paris Musketeers do the impossible and sign the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year: Maceo Beard!

After a season in Switzerland, the Frenchman Maceo Beard heads home to play for the Paris Musketeers in 2024. The French-American safety played an incredible season in 2023 with the Helvetic Guards. He led the league in interceptions with eight of which were the most by a player in a single season in league history.

Impressive career at a young age

At only 23-years-old, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year has a lot of experience. Back in 2021, Beard played for the Potsdam Royals in the German Football League before taking part in the NFL International Combine in London. Just one year later, the Frenchman was selected by the Saskatchewan Roughriders with the 23rd overall pick in the CFL Global Draft. Beard put up great numbers at the CFL Global Combine with a 4.68 40-yard-dash, a 7.14 three-cone drill, and massive 18 reps at bench press.

After no real game action for the Roughriders in 2022, Beard signed with the Helvetic Guards in the ELF. His incredible season with eight interceptions, 40 total tackles, three tackles for loss, and twelve pass breakups earned him Defensive Player of the Year honors.

For the Musketeers, the signing of Beard is more than important. After a more disappointing first season in the ELF with a final record of 6-6, the French franchise now is officially ready to attack 2024. It will be interesting to see what other players there are to suit up in the white and blue for the Musketeers in their second season on the continental stage.
