Over his long career, he has been the head coach of the Toronto Argonauts, Ottawa Rough Riders, and BC Lions. He also worked as the general manager for the BC Lions and Toronto Argonauts.

Rita has won multiple championships, including four Grey Cups as a coach and two as an executive. After leaving the CFL in 2012, he continued his coaching career in Europe.
