Barcelona Dragons hire former NFL coach Andrew Weidinger as head coach
The Dragons found their head coach for the upcoming season in the European League of Football!
The Barcelona Dragons have hired former NFL coach Andrew Weidinger as their new head coach for the 2022 season, as reported by the team.
“I am tremendously proud that this opportunity has come to me. This is a 'top' organization from top to bottom and I can't wait to start", Weidinger commented with excitement. He added: "We are going to be a mentally and physically strong team and we will go out and compete. We will give our fans a team to be proud of”.
Weidinger started his NFL career for the Atlanta Falcons as a personnel scout in 2007. In 2008, he worked as the assistant head coach for the Falcons until 2011. From 2012 to 2014, Weidinger worked as the offensive assistant coach for the Falcons.
From 2015 to 2018, the long-time NFL coach was hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to work as the offensive quality control coach and assistant wide receiver coach. Weidinger was responsible for the game management during his years in Tampa Bay as well.
After spending the 2021 season as the offensive coordinator for the Potsdam Royals, Weidinger will take on the head coaching job for the Barcelona Dragons in the European League of Football!
Barcelona Dragons general manager Bart Iaccarino is excited about the hiring of Weidinger and would like to keep him for years to come:
"We look forward to strong leadership and laying the foundations for a competitive and professional team. He is a person who has both the vision of the European and American level. He is young and has a long experience in the NFL. We hope that now he can give the best of himself, that he can help local coaches grow and that this can become a long-term relationship, since we are open to having the same coach for several years”
