A new era for Prague Lions in 2025
Felix Pahl

For the Prague Lions, the 2025 season brought major changes. With new head coach Dave Warner arriving, the franchise turned a new page. Along with Warner and a strongly rebuilt coaching staff, new imports came to the Czech capital - players who had already proven themselves in the European League of Football. Combined with a growing team chemistry, the Lions managed something they had never done before: winning more than one game in a season. With a 7-5 record, they even came close to reaching the playoffs.
Key imports make an impact
Unlike in previous years, the Lions relied on several experienced imports in 2025, and it paid off. Wide receiver William Patterson, offensive lineman Jasper Friis, defensive back Ken Hike Jr., and safety Lautaro Frecha all brought championship experience from their former teams. After tough early losses against the Vienna Vikings and Hamburg Sea Devils, the Lions found their rhythm. Over the final 10 games, they posted a 7-3 record and stayed in the playoff conversation until Week 13, when they narrowly lost to Frankfurt Galaxy. Defense was their biggest strength, creating the most interceptions in the league and ranking among the best in both pass and rush defense.

Offensive struggles remain
While defense was impressive, the passing game remained a weak spot. With only 1,744 passing yards, the Lions ranked near the bottom of the league. The offensive line also allowed 30 sacks, the third-highest number in the ELF. In addition, the red zone efficiency was average, with only two-thirds of trips ending in points.
A foundation for future success
If the Lions can build on this strong season and fix their mistakes, their first-ever playoff appearance in the ELF could soon become reality. The 2025 campaign showed that the franchise has the talent and chemistry to compete with some of the league’s best.
Looking ahead without Warner
The biggest challenge now comes off the field. Head coach Dave Warner, who played a key role in Prague’s rise, will leave to become the new head coach of the Madrid Bravos. Replacing him will not be easy. However, the Lions have already secured important players for the future: Jasper Friis and Ken Hike Jr. have extended their contracts, giving the team a strong foundation for another promising season.
