Saturday Recap Week 12: Do the Barcelona Dragons secure their playoff spot?

Stuttgart Surge experiences next low point in 10th game without a win this season.

The Barcelona Dragons roll over the Stuttgart Surge and move into the playoffs. For Stuttgart Surge it is the next low point, which further confirms the current situation in Stuttgart. Already in the first half the score was 56-0, and the team was not convincing in any phase of the game.

Dominating performances and highlight catches

For Barcelona, the touchdowns were scored Kyle Sweet, Antonio Montón, Adrián Jiménez, Plu and Mašlanka. Right after halftime, the Dragons added one with Jordi Torrededia. Fumbles and interceptions ensured the continued weakness of the Surge's offense. It's a pattern that has prevailed for the Surge since the beginning of the season: Every good play was followed by a mistake. No drive could be completed, only when the Barcelona Dragons put the foot off the gas late in the fourth quarter.

Shutout prevented

On offense, both Vandeven's poor decision making, and the offensive line's poor performance were responsible for the poor showing. No Surge player could win their 1vs1 duels. On top of that, Conwell, one of the Surge's best players, was injured in the fourth quarter and their only field goal attempt was even blocked. Philéas Pasqualini added the only touchdown and two point conversion of the game for the Surge in garbage time.

For the Dragons, it was a chance to sub in backups, their eyes already on the playoffs and the Championship Game in Klagenfurt on September 25th. Dragons won 62-8 in a game that was decided for them after just a few minutes. The Stuttgart Surge is already looking ahead to the Leipzig Kings and hopes to get their first win there in a duel.
