The Munich Ravens come off an incredible first season in the European League of Football with a final record of 7-5. Although the Central Conference was not the strongest in the ELF, it is still an accomplishment to finish your first-ever season with a positive record. However, their second season has started with a first big change. After parting ways with head coach John Shoop, the Bavarian franchise announced his replacements just weeks after: former Sea Devils defensive coordinator Kendral Ellison.

Are the Munich Ravens able to keep their momentum?

With Kendral Ellison, the Munich Ravens made a splashy move to kick off their offseason. To sign of the best defensive coordinators and defensive play callers in the league as your new head coach speaks volumes. “I think anyone in their right mind would be interested in the Munich Ravens franchise. From top to bottom, it’s a franchise that’s driven to do things the right way”, Ellison commented in an interview.  

Last season, the Ravens allowed over 28 points per game. As the defensive coordinator for Sea Devils, Ellison only allowed just over 23 points per game. On top of his knowledge, the American is a well-respected coach amongst players which will lure some incredible players to Bavaria for the 2024 season.

As far as player signings are concerned, Ellison has a short but clear message. “[…] You get the right people on the bus and the wrong people off the bus.” He further added: “We will create a competitive culture that may not be for everyone. Those that want to be a part of something special and earn everything will fit right in. […] And of course, we will add a little seasoning here and there!“

NFL Hall of Famer Joe Thomas – The Gamechanger in Munich?

"It goes without saying that Coach Thomas’ experience and passion will pay huge dividends for us. […] He will, and he wants to coach ball! He is just as excited as we are," Ellison elaborated on the addition of NFL Hall of Famer Joe Thomas to his coaching staff.

Having an NFL Hall of Fame offensive tackle as a coach is a gamechanger on the field and off the field. But it will also play a factor when it comes to player signings and recruiting. It will be interesting to see how many starting offensive lineman in the ELF are willing to play for the Ravens in 2024 because of Thomas’ presence.

Ellison: "It’s about to get scary"

There are still months to go until the ELF 2024 season kicks off. But the Munich Ravens are starting to slowy but steadily build a team with coaches and players that looks more than promising. When asked if there is anything else that Ellison wishes to add, he simply answered the following: “Now it's go time! We are building a powerhouse and creating a Bavarian Beast! If you know anything about me, I say what I mean and I mean what I say. Its about to get scary!“. If this energy that early in the offseason does not hype you up as a Ravens fan, nothing will.
