Top addition for Thunder!

Heiko von Glahn becomes General Manager of the Berlin franchise in the European League of Football

Berlin Thunder of the European League of Football announces a top addition! Heiko von Glahn will lead the franchise as General Manager into the inaugural season of the new continental league. The 53-year-old was once a manager for the National Football League and during his NFL Europe times for the Frankfurt Galaxy in key positions.

"With this, we have put in place a very important piece of the puzzle. Heiko von Glahn was our preferred solution for this position, and we are convinced that with his experience, know-how and his network in all areas that are crucial for the development of our franchise, he will make a significant success story with Berlin Thunder", says Levon Melikian on behalf of the owners group.

"I have followed the development of the European League of Football with great interest over the past few months. The time is ripe for such a league and I am convinced that football in Germany will benefit greatly from it. I am delighted with the fact that I have been involved in this project from the very beginning. We at the Berlin Thunder have to offer fans great sport and an attractive product," says von Glahn.

The 53-year-old looks back on a successful career in top-level sport. Most recently, von Glahn was Secretary General of the German Hockey Association until February 2021. He was responsible for the management of the entire association, including the men's, women's and junior national teams and the national leagues. From 2016 to 2019, von Glahn worked as Commercial Director for the Berlin-Hoppegarten racetrack.

Now the family man is returning to a sport that has long been close to his heart: At the end of the 1990s, von Glahn worked as Country Manager Germany for the National Football League, marketing the product "American Football" and NFL teams such as the New England Patriots, the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers in Germany, and was involved in the development of new business areas. At the same time, von Glahn was marketing director of Frankfurt Galaxy within NFL Europe.

With immediate effect Heiko von Glahn will work on getting Berlin Thunder ready for the first season in the European League of Football. In addition to the team from the capital city, starting on June 19, the Hamburg Sea Devils, Frankfurt Galaxy, Cologne Centurions, Stuttgart Surge, Leipzig Kings, the Panthers Wroclaw from Poland and the Barcelona Dragons from Spain will be competing for the Championship Game on September 26 at the MERKUR SPIEL Arena in Düsseldorf.
