Super-Sunday RECAP: A THRILLER in Duisburg and more

Rhein Fire really did it. With only 3 seconds left on the clock, the German franchise beat the reigning champion at home!

(6-4) Frankfurt Galaxy @ (6-4) Rhein Fire

With a packed stadium in Duisburg, the reigning champion took on the 5-4 Rhein Fire at home. But the on-fire Galaxy offense was held to only one field on their first two drives.

The Rhein Fire offense started off slow but ended their third drive of the game with a touchdown to wide receiver Nathaniel Robitaille for the lead.

Just moments later, quarterback Clark found wide receiver Harlan Kwofie for a monster touchdown. Then, Rhein Fire’s defense showed up by sacking quarterback Jakeb Sullivan who lost the ball.

The second half started with a bang for Rhein Fire with another offensive touchdown. As the Galaxy tried to fight back, Sullivan was injured but was able to get back on the field after a few snaps spent on the sideline. Just moments after re-entering the game, Sullivan found his wide receiver Marvin Rutsch for the score.

But with the scoreboard standing at 15 – 20 favoring the Rhein Fire, the home-team was still in charge. After a great pass to fullback Patrick Poetsch, Rhein Fire lost the ball in the redzone on a miscommunication during the snap.

The Galaxy used the extra possession and marched down the field in the fourth quarter. They capped off the drive with a touchdown to Reece Horn to regain the lead with a score of 21 – 20.

With only 21 seconds left, the Rhein Fire started a drive that will stay in the heads of thousands of fans. With just three seconds left on the clock, emergency-kicker Hanßen drilled a 43-yard field goal for the win.

The 6-4 Rhein Fire defeated the 6-4 reigning champions at home with a final score of 23 – 21.

(9-1) Hamburg Sea Devils @ (6-4) Berlin Thunder

The 8-1 Hamburg Sea Devils wanted to clinch their playoff spot today and started right off with a touchdown pass to 2021 All-Star tight end John-Levi Kruse.

But the Thunder defense stepped up with a sack by 2021 Defensive Player of the Year Kyle Kitchens.

However, the Thunder stood no chance in the first half as the score at halftime showed a 30 – 6 lead for the Hanseatic franchise.

In the third quarter, the Sea Devils continued their dominant performance against the conference rival and reached the endzone again.

The Berlin Thunder came back into this game but had no chance to beat a rolling Sea Devils team. With a final score of 39 – 17, the Sea Devils climb up to a 9-1 record.

(1-9) Istanbul Rams @ (9-1) Vienna Vikings

The 1-8 Istanbul Rams were already out of playoff contention but ready to make life difficult for the Vikings.

But the 8-1 Vienna Vikings were coming in hot after suffering their first loss of the season against the Galaxy last week. At the beginning of the second quarter, Erdmann fired a pass to his tight end Adria Botella Moreno for a 60+ yards score.

The Rams were without a chance in the first half but came close to score a touchdown at the end of the first half.

In the second half, running back Anton Wegan showed what he can do with the ball in his hands with a 95-yard touchdown to begin the third quarter.

However, the Rams came back into the game with a touchdown by American wide receiver Terryon Robinson. But all the effort was not enough to beat the Vienna Vikings.

The Rams fell to 1-9 with a final score of 27 – 37.

(2-8) Cologne Centurions @ (7-3) Raiders Tirol

The Cologne Centurions went into this game already without any hopes to reach the postseason. But the 6-3 Raiders Tirol were under pressure to win this game to have an advantage in a strong Central Conference.

In the first quarter already, the Raiders scored three touchdowns without allowing any on defense. A strong catch with a football move by Yannick Mayr ended up being the third score of the day.

Just before halftime, the Raiders did what they do best: score touchdowns. This time, it was Mayr again who brought up the score to 38 – 0.

The second half looked similar to the first one. The addition of Jamalcolm Liggins turned out to be a great one as he defended pass after pass thrown to standout wide receiver Quinten Pounds. But as Pounds was covered, wide receiver Louis Geyer continued to shine with a long touchdown down the right sideline for the first Centurions points on the board.

At the end of the fourth quarter, the Centurions scored once again which updated the score to 14 – 45.

With another touchdown to wide receiver Rödiger, the Centurions showed real strength and endurance and brought the score up to 20 – 45.

But this score stood until the very end when the whistle was blown to end the fourth and final quarter.

(4-6) Wroclaw Panthers @ (2-8) Leipzig Kings

Both teams came into this game without any hopes to reach the postseason this year. However, the Panthers and the Kings came out hot and tried to put their best foot forward.

With a score of 12-8 favoring the Kings after the first quarter, both teams have scored and were ready to take on their Week 12 opponent.

The second quarter had a lot of great highlights as well. The Panthers led the Kings by ten points at halftime with a lot of time and chances left to make plays for both teams.

After plays for touchdowns by both teams, the score stood at 28-24 favoring the Polish franchise in Leipzig. With a few seconds left in the third quarter, the Kins offense tried to regain the lead against their conference rival. And they scored another touchdown with pass to Seantavius Jones in the endzone.

The game ended with a final score of 41 - 37 after the Panthers scored late in the fourth quarter to retake the lead.
