Surge HC Hanselmann: “We got to know a lot of great players […]”

With over 150 players in attendance at the Stuttgart Surge combine last Saturday, the German franchise were able to find some outstanding athletes.

“Of course, when you look from the athletic perspective it was a success,” Surge head coach Hanselmann commented in an interview after the combine. “We have found someone who posted outstanding numbers again,” the Surge head coach hints at Luca Weis.

The German running stood out by posting the fastest 40-yard dash of 4.59 seconds. Other top athletes like Max Walser were standing out at the bench press. According to the Stuttgart Surge, Walser posted the most bench press reps with a total number of 24.

With Weis posting the fastest 40-yard dash, defensive back Junior Nkembi was right behind him with his 4.66 seconds. Nkembi also posted the best broad jump with 3.07 meters whereas Weis recorded the second-best broad jump with 2.96 meters.

In a post-combine interview, Surge head coach Hanselmann highlighted the performance of Weis and Nkembi. “The two athletes who positively surprised me were LucaWeis and Junior Nkembi. Both showed incredible testing results. Precisely in the drills that I think are important”.

Walser, Weis, and Nkembi are not yet signed by the Surge but could potentially be the last athletes added to an already promising roster.

Other players like Surge wide receiver Noah Bomba also surprised at the combine with the fastest 40-yard dash of an officially signed player with 4.68 seconds and a 2.87-meter broad jump.

With such great testing results, Hanselmann is ready to take on his second season as the head coach of the Stuttgart Surge in the European League of Football. “I look forward to the upcoming season. It’s time that the season finally kicks-off and that we can be back on the field.”
