The Milano Seamen are one out of four franchises who are set to join the European League of Football in 2023. With Italian football coming to the best American football league in Europe, Seamen head coach Stefan Pokorny commented on the franchise’s preparation for the 2023 season, his mindset as a coach, and much more. 

How far along are the Seamen with their preparation for the 2023 season in the European League of Football?

Our last game in the Italian football league is now almost two months ago. Everyone took some time to recharge the batteries. We had already our first meetings to align everyone in the same direction and are currently in the process of finalizing our coaching staff.

What type of players are you looking for at your combine this October?

We are looking to build a strong local core roster with players from all over Italy but are also curious to see players from other countries. A big focus for us will be the signing of linemen to build a deeper roster. We are looking for players with great effort and character who want to represent Italy on this big stage. What can the fans of the European League of Football and the fans of the Milano Seamen expect from your team in 2023?

The fans of the European league of Football and from the Milano Seamen can expect a very hungry team which wants to put Italy on the map. We have a lot of talented players in this country and they want to prove that we can compete on the highest European level. Playing in the Velodromo Vigorelli will be a special experience. Night games in the summer with the view on the three towers behind the stadium can give you chills in front of a great crowd.

Could you describe your mentality as a football coach?

For me personally, everything starts with the right culture. Bringing people from different backgrounds together and forming a team with one common goal is probably one of my biggest strengths. Building relationships and trust in what we do is a very important part in this process for me. If we get this done in the European League of Football as well, then we will have a lot fun and success next year.
