Week 5 takeaways – Musketeers find rhythm, Lions get stronger

There was a lot going on in the European League of Football this week! But what are the takeaways?

Week 5 of the 2023 season is in the books. Clear-cut wins and thrilling fourth-quarter endings were all part of the past weekend. But what are the major takeaways after another week of the regular season is behind us?

Paris Musketeers finally find rhythm?

Do the Paris Musketeers finally get what they thought would when they signed former Barcelona Dragons quarterback Zach Edwards this offseason?  The French team was able to win against the Sea Devils at home with a final score of 27-23. Edwards played a major role in this math with his four passing touchdowns of which two were thrown to non-other than 2022 triple-crown winner Kyle Sweet. Slowly but surely, the Musketeers offense is starting to click. Look out for the Musketeers at the second half of the season because they are a team that could get better from week to week!

Berlin Thunder play to their strengths with new quarterback

Did the Berlin Thunder just find the piece their offense was missing? Don’t get me wrong. Donovan Isom has had some great plays, great throws, and great runs for the Thunder this season. But what their offense lacked was simple completions to their wide receivers to give them opportunities to move the chains and make big plays. With Slade Jarman, the Thunder got exactly that, although part of it depended on the play calling as well. But five touchdowns, no interceptions, and almost 400 passing yards in his debut with the Thunder look promising.

0-4 Prague Lions are better than you might think

The Prague Lions are a franchise that could look so much different if you change a few plays of their first four games in the European League of Football. Their last game against the Panthers is the perfect example. The Lions converted only four of their eleven third-downs but were highly effected in the redzone. In three total trips to the promised land, the Lions were able to score two touchdowns and one field goal. But three interceptions thrown by quarterback Shazzon Mumphrey fumbled the bag because the Panthers were able to turn those three turnovers into 14 points. You can do the math when I tell you the final score stood at 23-29 favoring the Panthers.

Stuttgart Surge don’t miss a beat with QB Weinreich taking over

The Stuttgart Surge are for real! There are always teams that are undefeated that you might not want to rank too high because of several reasons. Let me tell you, the Surge are not such a team. If you can bring in a new quarterback five days prior to gameday and still manage to up 28 points on the board while producing almost 400 total yards on offense, you overall team is just phenomenal. The former Cologne Centurions quarterback Jan Weinreich threw for one touchdown but also scored to on the ground his new team. Did the Surge just develop from horrific, to overlooked, to good, to unstoppable in just one offseason?
