Isaiah Weed: Can he change the trajectory?

The Centurions experienced a shift at the most important position on the field!

From Jan Weinreich in 2021 and 2022, to two quarterbacks, Dylan Jacob and Judd Erickson, in 2023. The Centurions experienced a shift at the most important position on the field the last year and were more restless than expected. They believe they have found a solution for the vacant position in Isaiah Weed. Under new head coach Gregg Brandon, also being the offensive coordinator, he has someone with extensive experience looking over his shoulder.

Showing his skills in college football

At North-Western Oklahoma State University (Div. II), the now 25-year-old quarterback totaled 2,599 passing yards, 23 touchdowns and added 10 rushing touchdowns on the ground. Showing adaptability coming into Europe, Weed lastly played for the Rostock Griffins in the GFL2 and SWARCO Raiders in the AFL. Weed comes in, after a turbulent last season prevented an upwards trajectory.

With Dylan Jacob (QBR of 81.07) throwing for four touchdowns in three games, and Judd Erickson (QBR of 64.17) starting off last season, throwing for seven touchdowns in seven games, both Centurions' quarterbacks of 2023 ranked in the bottom third of the league.

Help is needed

In order to improve these performances, it will be extremely important to provide the quarterback with the necessary support. With Connor Wedington, former wide receiver of the San Francisco 49ers, and returnee Jannik Lörcks, he has two interesting targets at his side. Will that be enough? It is well known that Weed can also impress in the run game. That could definitely help Cologne in a tough conference, while everyone is excited for Week 1.
