Playoff Picture after Week 12: Who's in and who's not?
We've completed twelve weeks of the 2024 European League of Football regular season, and it's been quite a ride. So let's take a look at the current playoff picture.
1) Vienna Vikings (11-0)
The Vienna Vikings enjoyed their first bye week in week twelve, using it to rest and recover. They remain in the top playoff seed thanks to their undefeated season so far. This top seed guarantees them a bye during the Wildcard Round and home-field advantage in the semi-finals.
2) Rhein Fire (10-1)
Rhein Fire moved up to the second playoff seed after their victory and the Surge's parallel loss. This seed also guarantees a bye week during the Wildcard Round and home-field advantage in the semi-finals.
Madrid Bravos (#6) at Stuttgart Surge (#3)
The Wildcard Round saw some significant shifts. Both the Surge and Madrid Bravos dropped in the rankings after their losses. With a 7-3 record, the Bravos are tied with the Munich Ravens and Raiders Tirol. However, the tiebreaker for best point differential puts the Bravos behind the Ravens but ahead of the Raiders. The Surge also fell in the rankings after their loss but still hold the third playoff seed due to their strong season with the third-most wins. And Stuttgart already secured the Central Conference title, although they lost in Week 12. This is due to the direct comparison with the Raiders and the Ravens.
Munich Ravens (#5) at Paris Musketeers (#4)
Both teams emerged victorious in Week 12. While the Paris Musketeers didn't move up in seeding, a win in their next game against the Madrid Bravos would secure their playoff spot. The Ravens' victory was crucial, as they dominated the Barcelona Dragons and racked up a high score. With a 7-3 record and the best point differential among teams with the same record, they are currently the highest-ranked team in this group.
Despite their win, the Raiders Tirol are currently just outside the playoffs. In a thrilling game, they managed to defeat the previously unbeaten Stuttgart Surge. However, due to their lower point differential, they are the lowest-ranked 7-3 team and are currently out of playoff contention. But they will play against the Ravens in Week 14. This will very likely be the ultimate showdown to grab the last playoff spots.
