Week 14 Preview: Who will take the #4 seed?

Who is ready for the last games of the 2022 regular season?

2-9 Cologne Centurions @ 1-10 Istanbul Rams

This matchup is just about who can finish the season on a good note. The Cologne Centurions started their second season in the European League of Football with two wins, including one against the Rams in Week 1. Now, they stand at 2-9 by losing nine games in a row.

The Istanbul Rams got better and better over the last weeks since the arrival of quarterback Isaiah Green and wide receiver Terryon Robinson. However, they have to play without inside linebacker Talat Gökhan Bulusan as he is suspended for the last game of the regular season. But will it be enough to knock of their conference rival at home?

10-1 Hamburg Sea Devils @ 8-3 Barcelona Dragons

Both, the Hamburg Sea Devils, and the Barcelona Dragons have already secured their spot in the playoffs.

Barcelona has clinched the #3 seed with an overall record of 8-3 while the Hamburg Sea Devils could still lose their #1 seed to the 10-1 Vienna Vikings. However, winning against the Dragons on Saturday would automatically secure them the #1 seed in the 2022 postseason.

But are the Sea Devils ready to defeat the Dragons for the first time this season, or are the Dragons spitting too much fire to put out?

7-4 Raiders Tirol @ 7-4 Berlin Thunder

THE matchup in Week 14. It all comes down to the Raider Tirol visiting the Berlin Thunder in Germany.

Both teams sit at 7-4 after thirteen weeks played in the European League of Football regular season. With a win, the Raiders Tirol would automatically qualify for the 2022 playoffs.

But if they lose to the Thunder, the German franchise still has a chance to make their first playoff appearance. However, the Thunder have to compete without offensive tackle Tobias Rodlauer who got suspended for one game.

Both, Raiders quarterback Sean Shelton, and Thunder quarterback Joe Germinerio found their rhythm and got better and better as the regular season progressed.

The performance and the protection of both quarterbacks could decide this game and consequently who will earn the last remaining seed in the playoffs!

0-11 Stuttgart Surge @ 7-4 Frankfurt Galaxy

The winless Stuttgart Surge have already given up on their season. With rotating players and playing an inexperienced quarterback in Week 13, the Surge should be an easy opponent for the Galaxy.

Nevertheless, the reigning champion has to win against the Surge to have a chance of advancing to the playoffs. If they do, the Raiders Tirol also have to lose against the Berlin Thunder with a rather small point differential to have a shot at the postseason.

Last time the Surge played the Galaxy this season, the winless franchise took the reigning champion into a triple overtime. Do the Surge have enough energy for a final upset in Week 14?

3-8 Leipzig Kings @ 7-4 Rhein Fire

The Leipzig Kings will play the 7-4 Rhein Fire who still hope to clinch the #4 seed. But for that to happen, the Raiders would have to lose against the Thunder, the Galaxy would have to lose against the Surge, and Rhein Fire would have to win against the Kings with a large point differential to have a better overall point differential than the Thunder.

Rhein Fire clinching the #4 seed is not impossible, but highly doubtful.

However, it all starts by winning against the Kings at home who come off a 38-0 win over the Surge. Will Rhein Fire have enough offensive power to score the needed points or do the Kings end their playoff hopes?

10-1 Vienna Vikings @ 4-7 Wroclaw Panthers

The Vienna Vikings will visit the Wroclaw Panthers in Poland on Sunday. With a win over the Panthers and a loss by the Sea Devils, the Vienna franchise would clinch the #1 seed in the playoffs.

The Panthers have no playoff hopes as they are clearly ranked third in the North Conference. However, they would also like to finish their 2022 season on a good note. And what could be better than defeating a championship contender at your last home game?
