Week 12: Six key takeaways

Week 12 in the European League of Football was all about playoff hype!

QB Zach Edwards + WR Kyle Sweet = Lethal

The Barcelona Dragons played the Stuttgart Surge on Saturday and won in a dominant fashion. Despite great performances all over the field, one duo of players shined once again.

Barcelona Dragons quarterback Zach Edwards dominated the Surge defense with seven passing touchdowns which is tied for the most in European League of Football history. Three of those touchdown passes were thrown to wide receiver Kyle Sweet who now leads the league in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.

Will anyone be able to stop these two in 2022?

Sea Devils show dual-strategy on offense

The Sea Devils were strong offensively and defensively. But the most interesting part of yesterday’s game was the strategy regarding the quarterback position.

Salieu Ceesay and Moritz Maack shared the Sea Devils offensive snaps with each of them throwing for two touchdowns. The two German gunslingers combined for 22 passing attempts, 14 completions, 207 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Have the Sea Devils found a secret formula on offense?

Rhein Fire win important THRILLER

What. A. Game. With only three seconds left on the clock, the Rhein Fire come through with a 43-yard field goal to win the game over the reigning champion.

Although Rhein Fire committed seven penalties for a combined loss of 109 yards, they were winning the field position battle and came through with a clutch play at the end.

Emergency kicker and defensive back Rene Hanßen kept his cool and drilled the field goal after quarterback Jadrian Clark found wide receiver Nathaniel Robitaille for a number of extra yards on the outside.

Rhein Fire’s playoff hopes are still alive. But will they be hot enough to survive the last two weeks of the regular season?

Vikings win despite costly mistakes

17 total penalties for a combined loss of 125 yards speak for themselves. The 9-1 Vienna Vikings are usually very disciplined when it comes to playing clean football. But against the 1-9 Rams, the Austrian franchise were not bringing their A-game.

Despite this outrageous number of penalties, the Rams were not able to come back into the game after scoring no points in the first half.

Are the 9-1 Vikings back after a costly loss against the Galaxy in Week 11 or do they need more time to reboot?

Individual breakout games for the Raiders

The Raiders did it again and are already having one foot in the playoff bracket. With an overall record of 7-3 in the Central Conference, the last two games of the regular season are still important. But with one win over the 6-4 Galaxy, the Raiders are clearly in a better position to succeed into the postseason.

Quarterback Sean Shelton was on fire once again with five touchdown passes and no interceptions. Defensive tackle Niklas Gustav was dominating the Centurions all day long as well with four tackles for loss and two sacks.

Will the Raiders be the fourth team to enter the playoffs?

Panthers win shootout in Leipzig

The 4-6 Wroclaw Panthers have won a close game against the 2-8 Leipzig Kings in conference matchup. With a final score of 41-37, the Panthers were lucky to finish of the game at the end.

But costly turnovers by the Kings and inconsistent play overall were not enough to beat the Panthers at home in Leipzig.

With a win on the road, will the Panthers trip up the 9-1 Sea Devils in Week 13?
