Week 11 Preview: Will Rhein Fire keep their playoff hopes alive?

Week 11 is almost here! Who is ready for a gameday with playoff implications?

4-4 Rhein Fire @ 1-7 Istanbul Rams

Will the 4-4 Rhein Fire be ready to take on the revamped 1-7 Istanbul Rams tomorrow? For the last two games, the Rams were much better offensively with a new quarterback under center. The 24-year-old Isaiah Green was able to keep drives alive with his feet which gave the Turkish defense time on the sideline to re-energize.

Former Hamburg Sea Devils quarterback had more than solid games for the Rhein Fire so far. But will he be able to keep up with his last performances under the Turkish sun?

This is a must-win for the Rhein Fire to keep their playoff hopes alive.

6-2 Barcelona Dragons @ 2-6 Cologne Centurions

The leading team of the Southern Conference plays against the 2-6 Cologne Centurions wanted to achieve so much more this season.

At the combined practice against the Galaxy, former Division I offensive lineman Leander Wiegand told me: “We want to take it all [this season]”. But with six straight losses after a 2-0 start, the German franchise did everything except taking it all.

However, this game could be about taking revenge as starting quarterback Jan Weinreich returns for the Centurions after a concussion. With newly signed running back Joshua Mack, the Centurions could make life difficult for the Dragons at the top of the South Conference.

2-6 Leipzig Kings @ 7-1 Hamburg Sea Devils

The first game on Sunday will feature two exciting teams. Despite their 2-6 record, the Leipzig Kings have played solid football. Defensively, the Kings lived off their pass rush but were not able to stop the run so far as they allowed the second-most rushing yards (1017) over an eight-game span.

But will the Sea Devils be able to lean on their run game again? Quarterback Salieu Ceesay has developed from a quarterback who just tries to prevent turnovers to a gunslinger who occasionally is able to throw his receivers open.

So, are the Sea Devils dominating the north again or will Leipzig show them who the real King of the north is?

8-0 Vienna Vikings @ 5-3 Frankfurt Galaxy

The undefeated Vikings are playing in a category of their own. Leading the league in major categories on offense, defense, and on special teams, opposing franchises do not know how to find any major weak links.

However, the 5-3 Frankfurt Galaxy are on a roll at the moment and could hurt the Vikings on the road. In my opinion, this will be the most difficult game the Vikings have played in the entire regular season so far.

With quarterback Jakeb Sullivan fully healthy and former NFL receiver Reece Horn hauling in touchdown after touchdown, the Austrian franchise has to prepare for a real fight to protect their undefeated record.

5-3 Berlin Thunder @ 3-5 Wroclaw Panthers

This is an incredibly important game for both parties. The 3-5 Wroclaw Panthers look to keep their slim playoff hopes alive by winning against a more disciplined Berlin Thunder franchise. But giving up the most sacks (29) so far in the regular season does not help if you play against 2021 Defensive Player of the Year Kyle Kitchen and his fellow teammates.

The Berlin Thunder on the other side have played efficient football in most of their possessions. However, some turnovers or general mistakes still hinder the German franchise to capitalize on their true potential.

Will the Thunder be able to play a game without hurting themselves or are the Panthers ready to take advantage of turnovers and costly mistakes?

0-8 Stuttgart Surge @ 5-3 Raiders Tirol

The winless Stuttgart Surge still look for their first win in the 2022 regular season. For over a year, Stuttgart fans did not have the pleasure to experience what winning feels like. Will this be the weekend when everything changes? Possibly not.

The 5-3 Raiders Tirol are possibly the best 5-3 team in the European League of Football in the moment and have statistically the best quarterback under center as well. Sean Shelton leads the league in passing yards (2193), completions percentage (64.36), and quarterback rating (104.7).

So, it will take every single player for the Surge to stop the American gunslinger. Unfortunately, the German franchise will be without Chaska Remy Perron. The French linebacker is not allowed to play for the Surge this weekend because of an unnecessary roughness call against him last week.
