Vienna Vikings re-sign All-Star left tackle

Aleksandar Milanovich will return to the Vienna Vikings.

The Vienna Vikings are managing to do what most championship teams can’t. The are keeping their key players around. Especially when it comes to the offensive line, the reigning champions are doing a great job.

After already re-signing 20-year-old rising star Lukas Holub at the right tackle spot and center Matthew Daltrey, Chris Calaycay’s team is re-signing one of the best left tackles in all of Europe. Aleksandar Milanovich signed a two-year deal with the franchise with which he started his career.

Vienna native to the US and back

Milanovich started to play football in 2005 at the age of 14 for the Vienna Vikings youth program. He showed talent early on and was a vital part in the Austrian Youth National teams by 2008, being named to the European Youth Championship All-Star team.

In 2011 it was time for the talented Austrian to take the next step. He joined the Sacramento State Hornets in the Big Sky Conference. Milanovich showed promise at the Division I FCS school and was even selected to All-Conference Third-Team, before transferring to Adams State for his senior season. At the Division II school, the left tackle gained the All-Conference honors once again.

In his only season in Finland, Milanovich was selected to the Maple League All-Star team an won Maple Bowl Co-MVP honors in a dominant 50:6 win over the Kuopio Steelers. After spending the 2020 and 2021 campaigns playing for the Banja Luka Rebels in Bosnia, Milanovich joined the Vikings for their first season in the European League of Football.

The Austrian standout was an instant difference maker and a key piece in the Vikings offense, earning a Second-Team AllStar selection and winning the European League of Football Championship with his team.

Head coach Chris Calaycay is excited to have his franchise left tackle back for the next two years:

„It is so special to have Aleks back for the foreseeable future. Having coached him since the youthprogram, we have had some moments together, but we have lifted the trophies together as well. There isn’t a better Left Tackle on the blindside for the Vikings than Alexander Milanovic."
