Top Signings of the Week – Surge sign experienced LB and more

Do you wonder what players were the real steals this past week? Then this is just the right place for you!

The European League of Football heads towards its third season. All 17 franchises are looking for the best players available in Europe and from around the world. But what franchise won this past week with its mind-blowing signings?

Stuttgart Surge add experienced Division I linebacker

If you look at all signings of the Surge, there is no doubt that they have the potential of being one of the best defenses this season. Yet, the Surge have signed another experienced player to their ranks: linebacker Khaylan Kearse-Thomas.

The former Division I player has racked up twelve tackles for loss and four-and-a-half sacks in his senior year for the Sun Devils. He even ended his final collegiate season with a Sun Bowl victory.

The 188cm tall and 100kg heavy linebacker went undrafted in 2020 but was signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent two days later. After his short stint in the NFL, Thomas-Kearse went on to play for the Bluebombers in the CFL. Now, the American will play in Europe for the first time and add to an already dangerously looking defense.

Have you seen this yet?

Prague Lions sign possible breakout player

Aymeric Nicault. A name some Rhein Fire fans could be familiar with. The French wide receiver had signed with the Fire back in 2022 but decided to opt-out before the season kicked off.

After attending the NFL International Combine in 2021, Nicault impressed with his freakish size and athleticism. He now joins the Prague Lions who will play their first season on the European stage.

Nicault could be a huge boost for the Lions offense with his skills to catch passes and his instinct to find the endzone. If he stays with his team in the European League of Football this time around, the Lions have found themselves a player with breakout potential!

Galaxy sign another great DB to their secondary

One of the most underrated cornerbacks of last season is back in purple and black. German defensive back Karim Ben El-Ghali will suit up again for the Galaxy in 2023, as the team announced a few days ago.

With this signing, the Frankfurt franchise could have propelled itself to possibly feature the best defensive backfield the European League of Football has to offer. The 23-year-old will join Jamalcolm Liggins, Tony Anderson, and Joshua Poznanski to form an ultra-talented and deep secondary!

As pointed out last week, the Galaxy defense is on the rise and could surprise a lot of fans with their ability to shut down the pass better than any other team once the 2023 season kicks off.
