Saturday Recap Week 13: Rhein Fire and Berlin Thunder stay in playoff competition?

For the Istanbul Rams and Cologne Centurions it was all about upsetting the playoff candidates.

(7-4) Berlin Thunder @ (1-10) Istanbul Rams

Berlin Thunder entered the match against the Istanbul Rams as favorites, but the Rams' unpredictability is no stranger to the league. Against the Barcelona Dragons the Rams won, against the Hamburg Sea Devils they lost narrowly by three points. The game opened with a touchdown from quarterback Isaiah Green to Robinson, who is increasingly becoming a crowd favorite. The answer was not long in coming. It was to be Joe Germinerio's game, throwing a total of five touchdowns, completing 19 of 31 passes. Efficiency was the magic word for the Thunder. The ball was distributed well, Schumann, Schulz, Crawford and Wilzeck benefited. Crawford reached over 1,000 yards rushing this season via his performance and is now the all-time leading rusher in the European League of Football. Both defenses had little access to the quarterback. Both Isaiah Green and Joe Germinerio made few blunders and thus it led to an undisturbed 38-14 victory for the Berliners, who still must hope for shooting help from the other franchises to get a popular spot in the playoffs.

(7-4) Rhein Fire @ (2-9) Cologne Centurions

The Centurions were looking to give Rhein Fire a run for their money. After a supposed cheerleading incident the previous week, it ended up being a family atmosphere between the two fan camps that made for a sunny afternoon. Rhein Fire was dominant right away, putting the Centurions in the position of having to chase a deficit. In the third quarter, the Centurions scored more points than Fire, the others were dominated by Rhein Fire. It was a defensive performance to forget for the Centurions. Over 500 yards and six touchdowns were thrown by Jadrian Clark, quarterback of Rhein Fire. As usual he found his three top receivers Nathaniel Robitaille, Harlan Kwofie and Timothy Knuettel. Robitaille probably showed the best game of his season. In the end, an equally strong performance by Jan Weinreich was not enough for the win. He too threw for six touchdowns and over 400 yards. Paul Lenhardt and Louis Geyer each collected three touchdowns. Not enough in a game that showed a playoff contender in top form. Only the defense and the rungame seem to be lacking at Rhein Fire. The game ended 59 to 37.
