Hamburg Sea Devils re-sign defensive tackle Hiswill Awuah

The 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year nominee will be back on board for his third season as a Sea Devil.

The fan favorite is back! Hiswill Awuah is re-signing with the Hamburg Sea Devils.

Talented defensive tackle and role model

The Hamburg native has been a fan favorite and role model ever since he joined the Sea Devils for the 2021 European League of Football season. Despite being only 1,80 meters tall, the 130-kilogram defensive tackle has been an important player for the franchise, especially when it comes to stopping the run.

Awuah was one of the three nominees for the 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year award and took the next step in 2022, when he played in every game for the Sea Devils, racking up 3.5 sacks and two tackles for loss.

“Hiswill was one of my top priorities”

The young Hamburg native is happy to return to his hometown team and ambitious for the 2023 season: “It is my goal to contribute to our defensive staying the most dominant in the league. With the best fan base out there, we will bring the title to Hamburg this year. We owe this to the fans and to ourselves. The Sea Devils are offering me an environment, in which I can develop ideally. Coach Kendral and Coach Malik were deciding factors for my extension.”

Have you seen this yet?

Defensive coordinator and 2021 Assistant Coach of the Year Kendral Ellison is more than happy to work with the talented defensive tackle again: "Without a doubt Hiswill was one of my top priorities. He’s been a huge part of our success defensively. Not many human beings combine his size, strength, and athleticism. As scary as he’s been in the first two seasons, he still hasn’t really scratched the surface and that’s why most teams in the league coveted him. His return is huge not only for the defense, but also for the team."
