Former Division I linebacker Ronley Lakalaka returns to Stuttgart Surge

The Hawaiian playmaker Ronley Lakalaka just re-signed with the Surge and is set to play his first full season in the European League of Football!

From the Aloha State back to the Schwabenländle. Ronley Lakalaka has re-signed with the Stuttgart Surge and will be part of the German franchise for a second consecutive year, as the team announced.

“I signed with the Surge because the coaches and players believe in my ability to take the team to the next level, the beautiful city, and the already established friendships and brotherhood that I have created for when I signed last year toward the end of the season because of a linebacker getting hurt,” Lakalaka commented on his decision to return to the Surge and to the European League of Football. “For the coaching staff to believe in me on short notice, it was a no brainer at that point”.

After Lakalaka’s college career at San Diego State, he attended the New York Jets rookie minicamp in 2019 but unfortunately did not make the roster cuts. Lakalaka then signed with the BC Lions in the CFL but had to sit out almost two years because of a broken ankle, according to the Surge press release.

Last year, the American linebacker signed with the Surge and appeared in three games in which he locked in 16 total tackles and one tackle for loss. This year, Lakalaka has only one goal in mind. “My goal for this season is to bring a championship to Stuttgart and to get better game after game”.

With Lakalaka, the Surge have all four American import spots filled. Quarterback Randall Schroeder and tight end David Meza will contribute to the offensive side of the ball. Defensive back Malcolm Washington and linebacker Lakalaka will pair up on defense.
