Speed, agility, ball skills, and much more. The Stuttgart Surge were looking for an all-round defensive back and now officially signed former Northern Iowa cornerback Malcolm Washington to their roster.

The 187cm tall and 86kg heavy defensive back grew up in Houston, Texas, and started his football career at Alief Elsik High School. As a multi-sport athlete, Washington learned how to play wide receiver but transitioned to defensive back at college.

From 2014 to 2015, Washington played at Fresno State University and recorded 45 total tackles and seven passes defended.

After transferring to Northern Iowa, the American cornerback was able to develop his game even further. Over two years in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, Washington recorded 91 total tackles, one tackle for loss, and six interceptions.

Following such an impressive collegiate career, Washington was invited to take part in the Arizona Cardinals rookie minicamp in 2018. However, the American playmaker was not signed by the team and consequently decided to take his talents to Europe.

After recording 32 total tackles, 20 passes defensed, and ten interceptions over the course of 14 games with the Allgäu Comets in 2019, the Edmonton Elks (formerly Edmonton Eskimos) in the CFL went on to sign Washington for the 2020 season. Because the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Washington did not have the chance to play a single game in the CFL.

Now, the American defender joins a young and talented group of players in Stuttgart with a chance to prove his playmaking abilities on the biggest stage of American football in Europe!
