2022 Week One MVP Flamur Simon joins Rhein Fire for 2023 season

One of the best young free agents found another franchise to play for!

As the Rhein Fire announced on Friday, free agent outside linebacker Flamur Simon will play for the Cologne neighbor city in 2023. The standout athlete was one of the bright spots on the Cologne Centurions roster last year and now joins the Rhein Fire for the upcoming season. At just 22-years-old, Simon attended two NFL International Combines and brings a complete package with 113 kg and 1,96 m.

"I can't wait for the 2023 season to start"

Before that, he played for the Düsseldorf Panther from 2018 to 2021. At the NFL Combine in London this year, the Western German athlete ran a 4.84 seconds 40-yard-dash and had a 2,9 meter broad jump. With 0.5 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions and one touchdown in week one of last year’s regular season, he made a name for himself. “I will give my best for the team and the fantastic fans. I can’t wait for the 2023 season to start," commented Simon.

Coaching staff finds great football players

76 total tackles, five total sacks, 12 tackles for loss last season speak a clear message. With Alejandro Fernández lined up as defensive end or outside linebacker, they could have two of the best young athletes for the next season already locked up. Looking at Patrick Köpper as their linebackers coach and Jim Tomusula as head coach, the coaching staff looks ready to develop both Fernández and Simon into even greater athletes.
